CORRUPT COUNTRIES
Added on: 13th Jan 2016
UZBEKISTAN
With a highly authoritarian government and a very poor human
rights record, Uzbekistan has often been a focal point of criticism
both from western nations and watchdog groups.
TURKMENISTAN
A former soviet republic, Turkmenistan only recently emerged
from being a very strict dictatorship although its government
is still fairly autocratic. It is an ethnically homogenous country
with an underdeveloped economy because foreign investors
have for the most part stayed away.
IRAQ
A focal point of war, conflict, and regional struggles for power,
it is perhaps a bit surprising that Iraq isn’t ranked even lower.
SOUTH SUDAN
It is one of the newest nations on Earth and although it recently
gained its independence from Sudan there is still a lot of work to
be done when it comes to establishing stability.
AFGHANISTAN
This landlocked nation has suffered so much conflict and
violence that most of its infrastructure is destroyed and a
large number of its people are refugees. Combined with an
economy centred around drugs.
SUDAN
Long beset by conflict, Sudan used to be one of the biggest
nations in Africa until its recent split with South Sudan. Ethnic
cleansing, civil war, and other conflicts have led to instabilities
that provide fertile soil for corruption.
NORTH KOREA
The only thing that prevents North Korea from coming last is the
fact that it actually has a government (unlike Somalia for the
better part of the last two decades). Other than that this nation
needs no explanation.
SOMALIA
Until a new internationally backed government was restored in 2012,
Somalia was basically a no-man’s land of pirates, warlords, and gangs.
Unfortunately the country has a long way to go before things
get cleared up.
